(Published on 20.06.2023) Registration for the first Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI) is now open. We look forward to welcoming you to Karlsruhe from 12 to 14 September 2023.
About CoRDI
The main topics of the conference include technical and non-technical aspects for establishing interdisciplinary research data management (RDM). CoRDI stands for more comprehensive knowledge through better use of research data, for innovations and the resulting social benefits. Under this year’s theme “Connecting Communities”, national and international stakeholders from all research fields as well as from the infrastructure sector are invited to exchange about an excellent RDM of the future and about the latest developments. The German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) is organizing the conference in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). NFDI contributors as well as all other RDM interested stakeholders will have the opportunity to meet at the KIT Campus South.

Registration is open until 31 August 2023 (midnight CEST).
Programme
A current version of the programme can be found here. Special highlights are keynotes by Christine Borgman (University of California) on Tuesday morning and Mark Wilkinson (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) on Thursday morning. In addition to a wide-ranging conference programme addressing research data infrastructure, there will be a public evening lecture on Thursday, 12 September, with Julia Janssen, an artist who researches the influence of digitalisation on our physical world.
On Wednesday, 13 September, there will be an exciting evening programme. You can choose between three options:
- Conference dinner: Directly on the KIT campus we offer you a conference dinner in a pleasant atmosphere. It is the perfect event for you if you want to round off the evening with networking and a good meal.
- Excursion to KIT Campus North: We will take you by bus to Campus North, which is only a few kilometres away. Here you can marvel at large-scale experiments. Among them is the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino (KATRIN) experiment which aims to measure the effective electron antineutrino mass. Not only fascinating for physicists!
- Visit to the Schlosslichtspiele (“Castle Light Games”): When darkness falls, artistic projections are displayed on the façade of Karlsruhe Palace (Karlsruher Schloss). Follow us to the magnificent baroque residence and enjoy the magic of lights and sound in a pleasant picnic style atmosphere.

Save the date: CoRDI 2027 – see you in Hannover!
The 3rd edition of the Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI) will take place from 5 to 7 October 2027 at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH). CoRDI 2027 is being organised by the association German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in cooperation with the TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and LUH.
Minister Petra Olschowski visits the NFDI

These and other questions were the focus of the visit by Petra Olschowski, Minister for Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg, to the office of the NFDI association in Karlsruhe on 18 August.
GWK Approves Continued Federal and State Funding for NFDI Starting in 2029
At its meeting on July 10, the Joint Science Conference (GWK) adopted a new federal-state agreement (BLV) for the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). This agreement defines the funding and future structure of NFDI starting in 2029. The federal and state governments intend to continue funding NFDI with up to 98.7 million euros per year from 2029 to 2038.
