NFDI Repository
An NFDI repository is a research data repository operated by one or more NFDI members and recognised by an NFDI consortium as belonging to its scientific community, or any other repository recognised by an NFDI consortium as belonging to its scientific community. In cases of doubt, the respective consortia shall decide on the disciplinary affiliation.
The aim of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) is to establish a comprehensive and sustainable infrastructure for research data management (RDM) that supports researchers in the efficient management and use of research data. In accordance with the FAIR principles, data should be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable in order to maximise benefits for science and society and to enhance the efficiency and innovative capacity of the entire scientific system.
The NFDI is organised as a decentralised network of expertise and services. Twenty-six NFDI consortia – that is, groups of institutions within a specific research field – provide tailor-made services for their respective communities. Within the NFDI sections, the consortia work together on interdisciplinary solutions relevant to all scientific disciplines. The NFDI Association is an umbrella organisation for research data management across all scientific disciplines. Together, the Association, the consortia and the sections are shaping the future of research data management in Germany and internationally. NFDI works closely with other national and international initiatives, such as the research data management initiatives of the federal states, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the Research Data Alliance (RDA).
