(Published on 04.11.2022) The Joint Science Conference (GWK) has decided today to include eight more consortia in the federal and state funding of the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).
Among them is the Base4NFDI basic service consortium, which wants to offer services for all consortia. Services are understood to be technical and organisational solutions that include, for example, storage and computing services, software, processes and workflows, as well as the necessary personnel support for various service desks. At the beginning of the year, the Consortia Assembly of the NFDI Association had spoken out in its favour of common basic services in a position statement.
In addition, the GWK has decided to support seven subject-specific consortia.
- FAIRagro: FAIR Data Infrastructure for Agrosystems
- NFDI4BIOIMAGE: National research data infrastructure for microscopy and bioimage analysis
- NFDI4Energy: National Research Data Infrastructure for Interdisciplinary Energy System Research
- NFDI4Immuno: National Research Data Infrastructure for Immunology
- NFDI4Memory: The Consortium for the Historically Oriented Humanities
- NFDI4Objects: Research Data Infrastructure for the Material Remains of Human History
- NFDIxCS: National Research Data Infrastructure for and with Computer Science
With this decision, the GWK followed the funding recommendation of the German Research Foundation (DFG). This recommendation comes at the end of a multi-stage science-led process, which many reviewers helped to shape.
The NFDI Association congratulates the eight consortia on the positive funding decision. “We are pleased that the continuity in the development of a comprehensive research data infrastructure for Germany has been strengthened,” says NFDI Director Prof. Dr. York Sure-Vetter. “I am pleased that our network can continue to grow and that even more scientists from different disciplines will be involved in shaping future-oriented research data management.”
The federal government and the federal states provide funding for the establishment and promotion of the NFDI on the basis of the federal-state agreement in a ratio of 90:10.
