building on the success of the 2nd NFDI Metadata Workshop in Hannover in June 2025, the Task Force Metadata cordially invites you once again – this time to the
3rd NFDI Metadata Workshop
1–3 December 2026, GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne
At the 2nd workshop, metadata experts from across the consortia laid the groundwork for two joint lines of work: recommendations for generic metadata schemas for datasets (schema.org, DataCite, DCAT) and re3data as the central registry for NFDI repositories. The results are documented in the workshop report on Zenodo: Report on the 2nd NFDI Metadata Workshop.
The re3data line of work has since resulted in the first recommendation proposed as an NFDI standard. Many thanks again to everyone who contributed and commented. We now want to take the same path for generic metadata.
Goal of the 3rd workshop: to finalise the NFDI standard „[Arbeitstitel: Recommendation on generic metadata in the NFDI]“. On the way to Cologne, the Task Force Metadata will
- publish a first draft of the standard,
- open a structured public commenting phase for the consortia,
- revise the draft based on your feedback,
- and bring it to the workshop for an externally moderated discussion, consensus-building and decision of the section.
Who should attend? Metadata representatives of the NFDI consortia, members of the section working groups, and everyone involved in metadata, repositories and search & harvesting services in the NFDI.

- Venue: GESIS, Unter Sachsenhausen 6–8, 50667 Köln [Room West]
- Number of participants is limited to approx. 60, please register early and coordinate within your consortium who will attend.
