Sprecherwahl in der Sektion Industry Engagement

In der NFDI-Sektion Industry Engagement fand am Freitag, 16. Mai, die Sprecherwahl turnusgemäß nach zwei Jahren statt.

Für Florian Stahl ist es bereits die zweite Amtszeit, während Andreas Förster das Amt als stellvertretender Sprecher von Prof. Dr. Christoph Eberl (Fraunhofer IWM und Universität Freiburg) übernommen hat. Wir danken Christoph Eberl an dieser Stelle für sein Engagement für die Sektion!

The NFDI section Industry Engagement held its speaker election on Friday, 16 May, after a two-year period.

This is Florian Stahl’s second term in office, while Andreas Förster has taken over as deputy speaker from Prof Dr Christoph Eberl (Fraunhofer IWM and University of Freiburg). We would like to take this opportunity to thank Christoph Eberl for his commitment to the section!

DigAMus Award 2025: Call for Entries

Für den DigAMus Award, die Plattform für herausragende digitale Projekte im Kulturbereich, die seit Anfang 2025 durch die Expertise von NFDI4Culture unterstützt wird, können ab sofort bis zum 31. Juli digitale Projekte aus Museen, Archiven und anderen Gedächtnisinstitutionen über das Einreichformular online eingereicht werden.

Alle Einreichungen landen automatisch auf der Longlist des DigAMus Award 2025 – eine wertvolle Sichtbarkeit für digitale Kulturprojekte. Anschließend stellt das Award-Team eine Shortlist zusammen und eine unabhängige, hochkarätige Jury übernimmt die Auswahl der Gewinner:innen.

NFDI4Culture als Kooperationspartner des DigAMus Award, insbesondere für die Datenübertragung zu Wikidata, ist auch Gastgeber der diesjährigen Preisverleihung am 24. September 2025 im Rahmen des NFDI4Culture Community Plenary Meetings in Mainz – mit Live-Event vor Ort und digitaler Teilnahme für alle. 

DigAMus Award 2025: Call for Entries

Digital projects from museums, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions can now be submitted online via the submission form until 31 July for the DigAMus Award. DigAMus is a platform for outstanding digital projects in the cultural sector which has been supported by NFDI4Culture’s expertise since the beginning of 2025.

All submissions will automatically be included on the DigAMus Award longlist, providing valuable visibility for digital cultural projects. The award team will subsequently compile a shortlist from which an independent, top-class jury will select the winners.

NFDI4Culture, as a cooperation partner of the DigAMus Award, especially with regard to the data transfer to Wikidata, will be hosting this year’s award ceremony on 24 September 2025 as part of the NFDI4Culture Community Plenary Meeting in Mainz, with an on-site live event and the opportunity for digital participation.

Zwei neue FAIRagro Use Cases starten!

Auch die zweite Use Case Ausschreibung ist auf großes Interesse gestoßen: Mit insgesamt 16 eingereichten Vorschlägen war sie sowohl quantitativ als auch qualitativ ein Erfolg. Wir freuen uns, zwei Use Cases mit starkem interkonsortialem und interdisziplinärem Profil aufnehmen zu können:

1. Hochschule Osnabrück (HSOS):
   „Agri-Gaia meets DataHUB: Connecting Technologies & Communities via a Potato Virus Dataset FAIRification“
   Dieser Use Case fördert die Zusammenarbeit mit den NFDI-Konsortien DataPLANT und NFDI4Biodiversity und verknüpft FAIRagro mit weiteren Initiativen wie Agri-Gaia und AgriDataSpace.
2. Umweltforschungszentrum (UFZ):
   „Unlocking Multifunctional Insights with Near‐Surface Geophysical Data Harmonization in Agriculture“
   Ein interdisziplinärer Showcase, der in enger Zusammenarbeit mit NFDI4Objects und NFDI4Earth (LoI) entwickelt wird.

Auch wenn nicht alle Anträge gefördert werden konnten, ist es FAIRagro ein zentrales Anliegen, den Austausch mit weiteren Institutionen zu intensivieren – insbesondere mit Blick auf benachbarte Disziplinen und Domänen wie die Tier- und Forstwissenschaften. FAIRagro hofft, einige der Antragsteller als FAIRagro Associated Partner zu gewinnen, um ihre Bedarfe und Expertise nachhaltig in die Weiterentwicklung der Infrastrukturen und Services einzubinden. Ziel bleibt es, gemeinsam den kulturellen Wandel hin zu einer offenen, kooperativen und FAIRen Datenpraxis für die gesamten Agrarwissenschaft zu gestalten.

Two new FAIRagro Use Cases tob e launched!

The second Use Case call has been met with great interest: With a total of 16 proposals submitted, it was a success both quantitatively and qualitatively. We are delighted to be able to include two use cases with a strong inter-consortial and interdisciplinary profile:

1. Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (HSOS):

“Agri-Gaia meets DataHUB: Connecting Technologies & Communities via a Potato Virus Dataset FAIRification”

This use case promotes cooperation with the NFDI consortia DataPLANT and NFDI4Biodiversity, and links FAIRagro with other initiatives such as Agri-Gaia and AgriDataSpace.

2. Environmental Research Center (UFZ):

“Unlocking Multifunctional Insights with Near-Surface Geophysical Data Harmonization in Agriculture”

An interdisciplinary showcase developed in close cooperation with NFDI4Objects and NFDI4Earth (LoI).

Even if not all applications could be funded, it is a central concern for FAIRagro to intensify the exchange with other institutions – especially with regard to neighboring disciplines and domains such as animal and forest sciences. FAIRagro hopes to gain some of the applicants as FAIRagro Associated Partners in order to integrate their needs and expertise into the further development of the infrastructures and services in the long term. The goal remains to jointly shape the cultural change towards an open, cooperative and FAIR data practice for the entire agricultural sciences.

NFDI4Health: Neue Funktionen im Health Study Hub
Der Health Study Hub ist der zentrale Service von NFDI4Health und ermöglicht die Veröffentlichung und Auffindbarkeit von klinischen, epidemiologischen und Public Health-Daten. Forschende können hier Gesundheitsdaten anhand von Suchabfragen zu spezifischen Metadaten, Instrumenten und anderen Ressourcen auffinden. Aktuell stehen etwa 44.000 Studien, Instrumente und weitere Dokumente zur Verfügung. Jetzt wurden neue Funktionen hinzugefügt, um die Benutzerfreundlichkeit, die Suchfunktionen und die Datenverwaltung zu verbessern. Weitere Informationen

NFDI4Health: New features in the NFDI4Health Study Hub
The Health Study Hub is the central service of NFDI4Health, providing a platform for the publication and discoverability of clinical, epidemiological, and public health data. Researchers can search for health data based on specific metadata, instruments, and other resources. Currently, around 44,000 studies, instruments, and additional documents are available. New features have now been added to improve user experience, search functions, and data management. Further Information

NFDI4Culture empfiehlt: LIDO-Handbuch Architektur
Um Daten aus verschiedenen Fachinformationssystemen auf institutionenübergreifenden Plattformen zusammenführen zu können, müssen gemeinsame Standards für Dateninhalt und Datenstruktur verwendet werden. Das neue LIDO-Handbuch für die Erfassung und Publikation von Metadaten zu kulturellen Objekten: Architektur und andere ortsfeste Werke ist ein Anwendungsprofil des Metadatenstandards LIDO (Lightweight Information Describing Objects), das alle relevanten Datenfelder für die Beschreibung von ortsfesten Werken, z. B. Bauwerken und Ensembles, erklärt. Es bietet eine Anleitung zur Erstellung von einheitlich strukturierten, LIDO-konformen Objektbeschreibungen und ermöglicht die gemeinsame Nutzung von Metadaten zu kulturellen Objekten im Web. Das von Julia Rössel, Viola Stenger, Angela Kailus und Regine Stein verfasste und von NFDI4Culture geförderte Handbuch steht kostenfrei zum Download zur Verfügung.
Der Online-Workshop Gebautes Kulturerbe dokumentieren und digital sichtbar machen: LIDO für Architektur und ortsfeste Werke von NFDI4Culture mit den Autorinnen Julia Rössel und Angela Kailus erklärt am 18. Juni 2025 anhand praxisnaher Beispiele, wie LIDO dabei hilft, komplexe Objekte abzubilden und sie mit anderen Kulturdaten zu vernetzen – von der Denkmalpflege bis zu 3D-Modellen.

NFDI4Culture recommends: LIDO Handbook Architecture
In order to be able to merge data from different subject-specific information systems on cross-institutional platforms, common standards for data content and data structure need to be applied. The new LIDO-Handbuch für die Erfassung und Publikation von Metadaten zu kulturellen Objekten: Architektur und andere ortsfeste Werke provides an application profile of the LIDO (Lightweight Information Describing Objects) metadata standard explaining all relevant data fields for the description of immovable objects such as buildings and ensembles. It offers recommendations for uniformly structured, LIDO-compliant object descriptions and encourages the shared use of metadata on cultural objects on the web. The handbook, written by Julia Rössel, Viola Stenger, Angela Kailus and Regine Stein and sponsored by NFDI4Culture, is available to download free of charge.
The online workshop Documenting and Digitally Presenting Built Cultural Heritage: LIDO for Architecture and Immovable Works organised by NFDI4Culture featuring the authors Julia Rössel and Angela Kailus on 18 June 2025 will demonstrate, through practical examples, how LIDO can be used to map complex objects and link them with other cultural data – ranging from monument preservation to 3D models.

NOMAD Tutorial Tour

Um NOMAD – eine webbasierte Plattform für Forschungsdatenmanagement (RDM), entwickelt von FAIRmat – einem breiteren Publikum vorzustellen, ging das FAIRmat Team auf Tour. Vom 19. bis 22. Mai veranstalteten die Expert:innen NOMAD-Tutorials in Mainz, Darmstadt und Heidelberg. Jeder Tour-Stopp umfasste einen Einführungsvortrag mit Q&A-Session sowie ein praktisches Tutorial.

Während der Veranstaltungen präsentierte FAIRmat NOMADs Entwicklung und erkundete gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmenden zentrale Funktionen der Plattform – darunter Projekt- und Workflow-Management, elektronische Laborbücher (ELNs), Plugin-Entwicklung und die Einrichtung lokaler Infrastrukturen. NOMAD Tutorial Tour

To introduce NOMAD – a web-based research data management (RDM) platform developed by FAIRmat – to a wider audience, the FAIRmat team went on tour. From May 19 to 22, the experts hosted NOMAD tutorials in Mainz, Darmstadt, and Heidelberg. Each stop included an overview talk with a Q&A session, followed by a hands-on tutorial.

During the events, FAIRmat presented NOMAD’s journey and explored its key capabilities with participants, including project and workflow management, electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), plugin development, and local infrastructure setup. Read more here.

Drittes NFDI Berlin-Brandenburg Netzwerktreffen
Am 21. Mai veranstalteten das mathematische Konsortium (MaRDI) und das Konsortium für Datenwissenschaften (NFDI4DS) gemeinsam das dritte Treffen des lokalen Netzwerks NFDI Berlin-Brandenburg (NFDI_BB), das alle NFDI-Konsortien der Region umfasst. Das Thema des Treffens lautete ‚AI as an enabler for science‘ und fand im Weizenbaum-Institut in Berlin statt. Rund 40 Teilnehmer aus ca. 16 NFDI-Konsortien hörten zwei aufschlussreiche Hauptvorträge (Alan Ang von Wikimedia Deutschland und George Rehm vom Deutschen Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz) und sieben interessante Tool-Demos, die den Einsatz von künstlicher Intelligenz in den einzelnen Konsortien zeigten.

Third NFDI Berlin-Brandenburg Network Meeting
On May, 21, the mathematical consortium (MaRDI) and the consortium for Data Science (NFDI4DS) jointly held the third meeting of the NFDI Berlin-Brandenburg (NFDI_BB) local network comprising all the NFDI consortia located within the region. The meeting topic was ‚AI as an enabler for science‘ and took place at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin. Around 40 participants from ca 16 NFDI consortia listened to two insightful keynotes (Alan Ang  from Wikimedia Deutschland and George Rehm from Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz) and seven interesting tool demos showcasing the use of artificial intelligence in the individual consortia.

Rückblick auf das 9. NFDI4Cat-Konsortialtreffen
Am 29. April fand das neunte und letzte Konsortialtreffen der aktuellen NFDI4Cat-Förderphase statt – ein bedeutender Meilenstein nach fünf Jahren erfolgreicher Zusammenarbeit. Im Mittelpunkt standen spannende Einblicke aus den Task Areas, aktuelle Entwicklungen zu Tools wie Repo4Cat, TRIQ oder pid4cat sowie Beiträge aus der Community.

Recap: 9th and Final NFDI4Cat Consortium Meeting
On April 29, the NFDI4Cat community came together for the ninth and final consortium meeting of the current funding phase – marking five years of collaborative progress. Highlights included insights from all Task Areas, updates on key tools such as Repo4Cat, TRIQ, and pid4cat, as well as contributions from the wider community.

NFDI4Earth @ EGU General Assembly 2025 in Wien

NFDI4Earth präsentierte Produkte und Aktivitäten auf der EGU 2025 in Wien vom 27. April bis 2. Mai. Das Konsortium war mit einem Stand, Vorträgen, Postern und interaktiven Formaten vertreten, darunter tägliche Pitches zu Themen wie dem FAIRness- und Openness-Commitment, Pilotprojekten (z. B. 4DWorks) und verwandten EOSC-Initiativen. Der Stand diente sowohl als offener Treffpunkt für Partner als auch als Live-Helpdesk. Ein Highlight war ein Townhall Meeting, bei dem NFDI4Earth mit Vertreter:innen europäischer Infrastrukturinitiativen ins Gespräch kam, eingeleitet durch Impulse von NFDI4Earth, FAIRagro und EPOS. Gemeinsam diskutierten alle, wie sich Infrastrukturen besser vernetzen und die Bedürfnisse von Forschenden im Forschungsdatenmanagement gezielter adressieren lassen.

NFDI4Earth @ EGU General Assembly 2025 in Vienna

NFDI4Earth showcased its products and activities at the EGU 2025 in Vienna from 27 April to 2 May. The consortium contributed with a booth, talks, posters, and interactive formats, including daily pitches on topics like the FAIRness and Openness Commitment, pilot projects (e.g., 4DWorks), and related EOSC efforts. The booth served as both an open meeting point for partners and a live helpdesk. A highlight was a Townhall Meeting, where NFDI4Earth engaged with representatives from European infrastructure initiatives, starting with impulses from NFDI4Earth, FAIRagro, and EPOS. Together, the participants explored how to better connect infrastructures and meet researchers‘ needs in data management.
