FAIR DS @ Data Spaces Symposium

FAIR DS @ Data Spaces Symposium

In March, the three-day Data Spaces Symposium took place in The Hague. A wide range of topics were covered, from best practices in the design and implementation of data spaces, to use cases and business models. The symposium included presentations, exhibitor booths, and numerous networking opportunities. FAIR Data Spaces was there and participated in the symposium with an exhibitor booth. At the booth, there was the opportunity to get a closer look at the three demonstrators developed in FAIR DS on geospatial biodiversity data, quality assurance and workflows, and cross-platform data analysis. During the three exhibition days, the representatives of FAIR Data Spaces had exciting discussions at the booth – from the FAIR principles and their implementation in the project, to the connection to Gaia-X and technical details of the demonstrators.

Second FAIR DS Ethical-Legal Workshop

In November 2022, the second annual workshop on the ethical and legal framework of FAIR Data Spaces took place, this time on topics related to the commercial use of research data and as an in-person workshop in Heidelberg. In a total of four presentations followed by Q&A, participants from the Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law (ITM) in Münster, the Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure (FIZ) in Karlsruhe, the University of Heidelberg (UHD) and Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) discussed conceptual as well as regulatory questions about the possibilities and limits of involving private-sector actors in public, data-based research. In the final session, plans for a possible joint publication on the topic were discussed, as well as initial ideas regarding the possible direction and structure of such a publication.

TIB Terminology Service in neuem Design

TIB releases new website design for Terminology Service

The Terminology Service of TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library provides central access to terminologies from fields such as architecture, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics. Terminologies from various projects are listed on the Terminology Service (TS) page as so-called collections. Starting this year, the TS has a new, more user-friendly design. For each of the projects currently using the TS, there is a simple overview of the terminologies used in the projects. FAIR Data Spaces is also included!

Next workshop on ELSA ethics training curriculum coming up in June (save-the-date)

In FAIR Data Spaces, a training curriculum for Data Scientists is being developed to share legal and ethical knowledge using the NFDI and Gaia-X collaboration as an example. After creating a landscape analysis of existing ELSA ethics training curricula and initial workshops last year, the workshop series will continue with a community workshop on June 14. The two-hour virtual workshop will present the current version of the training curriculum and demonstrators developed in FAIR Data Spaces. Additionally, there will be space for discussion and feedback on the presented curriculum. More information and registration details will follow soon here.
